3D4VET – Multiplier event in Sheffield

The 3D4VET Erasmus+ project is coming to an end this month, and we are proud to look back on the multiplier event we organised a couple of weeks ago to inform and inspire attendees about the world of 3D printing in VET and in business and the business opportunities it can bring. The multiplier event was held on the 19th of October and presented the final intellectual outputs of the 3D4VET project, followed by a presentation and live 3D printing demonstration from entrepreneur Mark Wigley.

3D4VET is an ERASMUS Plus and EU funded project. This project aims to include 3D printing technologies in the Vocational Training studies in Europe. The project was presented by Marina Larios, President of WiTEC (The European Association for Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Director of Inova and Project Manager of the 3D4VET project at Inova. The presentation featured definitions surrounding the project, a look into the learning pathway and an introduction to the collaborative platform. Attendees were shown how they could log onto the platform for free and access a Software or Hardware course in 3D printing. This was followed by videos which aim to inspire people to create using a 3D printer. These interviews formed an introduction to Mark Wrigley and his success story as a 3D printing entrepreneur.

Mark Wrigley is a physicist, who set up his own company, Elektric-Works, in 2011. Elektric-Works explores the way disruptive technology and creation can empower individuals and start-ups. To learn more about Mark Wrigley, click here.

Mark’s presentation focused on;

  • The Disruptive Technology Telescope and the creation of this
  • How an outreach project became a business
  • Use of crowdfunding
  • 4Ps of Marketing
  • His business manifesto

To close the event, Mark did a live demonstration of his 3D printer by printing a small blue rocket, while talking through the mechanics of this.

The event enabled attendees to network with others working in, or interested in, the area of 3D printing. All participants completed an evaluation form and some of the feedback is below.

 “I enjoyed learning about 3D Printing”

“Very motivating for an engineer”

 “I will take this back to my college”
